OUR HISTORY
The Co-op System grew from the traditions and values of Inuit, First Nation, and Métis communities. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, community-owned Co-operatives became some of the first locally controlled businesses in the North. Members wanted
meaningful employment, local decision-making, and the ability to reinvest profits into their communities.
The Co-operative model offered those opportunities, and today, Co-ops continue to support local economies, create jobs, and
reflect the cultures and values of Northern communities.
