CANADIAN ARCTIC PRODUCERS

CANADIAN ARCTIC
PRODUCERS (CAP)

History
Guided by its mandate to Promote, Protect, and Preserve Inuit and Dene art, Canadian Arctic Producers (CAP) was established in 1965, when northern Co-operatives identified the need for a trusted organization to market Inuit and Dene art while supporting local artists.

More than 60 years later, CAP remains true to this mandate and is recognized as one of the world’s largest wholesale distributors of authentic Inuit and Dene art.

Inuit & Dene Art
Inuit and Dene art reflects the culture, history, and lived experiences of northern Indigenous peoples in Canada. Rooted in storytelling, the land, wildlife, and community life, these art forms include sculpture, prints, textiles, jewellery, and traditional crafts. Created through both traditional knowledge and contemporary techniques, Inuit and Dene art preserves cultural identity while sharing northern perspectives with the world.

Promoting Inuit and Dene Art
CAP promotes Inuit and Dene art by working with galleries worldwide, cultivating relationships with private collectors, attending international trade shows, and collaborating with corporate partners connected to Arctic Co-operatives Limited. These efforts have created meaningful opportunities, including partnerships with well-known Canadian brands such as Canada Goose and Tim Hortons, as well as international companies like Filson Outfitters.

CAP’s Role in Protecting & Preserving Inuit & Dene Art
CAP protects and preserves Inuit and Dene art by purchasing works directly from Member artists in the communities it serves and managing both wholesale and retail marketing to ensure artists are fairly represented and compensated. Every piece is individually tagged to guarantee authenticity.

Through close collaboration with artists, CAP supports skill development and helps sustain the industry for future generations. In addition, CAP works with museums and galleries worldwide to safeguard artistic traditions and create opportunities to showcase master artists and their distinctive works for global audiences.
